Family Style

A while back, my Grandpa bestowed upon me a few discs of cd's he had inherited from a family member, and asked me to put them on a dvd.
In going through his life in pictures, I came to realize that my Grandma was one very stylish lady.
Looking back at her clothes (and glasses!) I am filled with envy and rage, because nothing was saved.
The only thing we have is this lovely scrap of white fabric with silver stitching from one of my grandmother's dresses that my mother will absolutely not let me steal!
So all I can do is stare wistfully to the style that came before me.
It's no wonder I have such great style!
I've been meaning to post this since I started my blog, to give credit to the style mavens before me (ha!) , okay, to share all you vintage lovers some of my favorite pieces.

One of my favorites. Just look at that dress!
Oh, and my Grandma looks so adorable and happy here and I totally see my mom in this photo.

Look at that full skirt!
Oh, and my grandparents being cute.

This is just one of my favorite pictures I think i've ever seen.

This yellow dress haunts my dreams constantly. I want it on me.
(That's my cutie mama in the front)

SO JEALOUS of my Grandma's glasses.

Sorry to brag, but my grandparents were really really ridiculously good looking.
(Note that my Grandpa signed his photo to my Grandmother "Forever, my love" awww...)

My grandpa's sister also knew how to dress.

So jealous of my great aunt's hair volume and gorgeous chartreuse dress!

Maybe I would've liked winter more if people still dressed like this.

I can't forget about the boys and their fashion sense. Checkout my great grandpa rocking the three-piece and my little grandpa's coat!

Thanks for getting nostalgic with me.
There's such a strong part of me that longs to have been here at an earlier time. I was made for the fashions. The oppression, not so much...

ahead of my time

Did you know I was a fashion blogger before fashion bloggers were really a thing?
Yep. It's true.

I'm (attempting) to clean out my harddrive tonight and came across these pictures from 2007.
When I liked my outfit and coaxed my little sister to go into a field and take pictures of me.

As you can see comparing these old snaps to my latest pictures, i've certainly lost my knack for posing.

I call this one "llama breaks free".

Just look at that Alberta backdrop!

Finding these pictures gives me an idea of how to re-create this outfit more stylish. ('cause really, what was I so in love with here?)

Stay tuned!

p.s. did this title get this song in your head?  Was I the only one so obsessed with Joseph that i'd race home from school everyday to watch it and make my sister re-enact the dances with me? Yes, I was? No one else is that nerdy you say? Yeah....

Instagram Dump

This is a thing bloggers do, right? Post intapics?
Well, i'm doing that now.
Because I can't find my camera cord OR battery charger, so I don't have access to the two times i've actually taken real outfit shots in months. Fail.

What I typically wear to school. I live for dresses and tights.

Just got this adorable yellow coat from Old Navy.
Even though my friend told me I look like Paddington Bear.
I personally think it's more like the salt girl.

This is my go-to hairstyle for when I haven't washed my hair in days. (Which is often.)
I always get comments from strangers on how "fancy" it is. If only they knew!!!

Just some beautiful foliage. I love fall.

I made caramel apples for Halloween night!

Halloween day I went as a spinster. (Aka myself.)
Get it? I'm hilarious.
I even had a cat.

When I sprayed my hair black for my Spock costume it made me really miss my black hair.
I keep thinking about dying it back, until I remember how much I love my red hair.

I'm really loving this polka dot sweater from old navy.
(ignore the mess of my closet. yes, I keep paper towel in my closet-my apartment is small!)

Another reason to love fall: PUMPKINS!

New glasses from Clearly Contacts. I'm in love.

I've been fostering cats this fall (because i'm lonely, but afraid of commitment)
and this girl was my favorite. She was so cute and cuddly.
Though, she was a biter. She bit my NECK.
She'd come in my room in the morning, walk on top of me, then creep up next to my head, lick my neck, then bite. She's a catpire.

Another beautiful Vancouver street in the fall.

It's pumpkin pancake time at IHOP!
aka my favorite time ever.

Until next time! Hopefully soon. School is in the final stretch! yaay!

This is Halloween!

I think it's clear that I LOVE Halloween.
Really, I love dressing up as beloved characters.

So for the church dance I went as Spock. Complete with genuine Vulcan ears!

It was part of a group costume- rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock.

Yeah, I have the coolest friends.

Also, please notice how legit my eyebrows were.
I did them all by my (amateur) self!

Then Wednesday night I decided to dress up again.
This time as beloved feminist icon Rosie the Riveter!

I had some friends over for some caramel apples and classic halloween movie viewing. (The Great Pumpkin, and Hocus Pocus!) A great way to spend the holiday in my humble opinion.

You'll notice these costumes are incredibly simple-I already had everything needed, just had to put it all together!
This just proves how insanely busy my semester is. Full course load and working has been in.sane.
So bear with! It may be another month before i'm fully back!
